Marple Athletic's home pitch at Marple Hall School has a slope. You'd think this gives the team attacking downhill in the first half an advanatge; a chance to chalk up a lead. This bizarre game saw th exact opposite happen. In just two attacks in a scrappy first half a well organised Hyde side went in at half time 2-0 in the lead and they were attacking UP HILL! A second half rally from Marple showed the boys have fighting spirit. They also remembered how to win games of football - pass the ball, move into space, have a shot at goal. And don't get caught offside. Louis Isaacs got the first two, one from an acute angle, the other a deft flick at the near post. Harry Turner buried his penalty, awarded for a trip on Ben Martin. The best strike of the match however was Harry's second to make it 4-2. Special thanks go to the referee Derek Hill. He was struggling with a bug but was true to his commitment to the boys and didn't want to let them down, when in truth he was quite poorly. Thanks mate. |
