Well we’re in the last few weeks of the season and our penultimate league game is against the current league leaders and our games today turned into two great games of football.
The first game was end to end but with Joe Keegan unbeatable in goal it looked like all we had to do was score and the game would be settled. Unfortunately it never goes that way and an unlikely mistake on our part brought about the only goal of the first half and that went to 3D.
We went out for the second half determined to make amends and Matthew Atkinson was outstanding for the second half, possibly the best half of football I’ve witnessed all season. To be honest, everyone worked hard but we couldn’t find the back of the net. With virtually the last kick of the game Ethan hit the ball from the edge of the box and it nearly took the keeper into the net as well as the ball. For the second time this year we equalised with seconds to spare.
3D started strongly in the second game and it wasn’t long before they went in front. We tried to get back into the game but struggled to find our feet and to be fair 3D were worthy leaders at half time. The second half started and just when we started to get going 3D scored again, now we really did have an uphill battle on our hands!
The second goal seemed to spark us into life and, not for the first time this season, the lads really responded led by Elliott who’s boundless energy carries him all over the pitch. We pushed forward more and more and when the ball broke kindly to Keigher he volleyed it beyond the keeper. You could sense now that they felt they could get a result from this and shortly afterwards Keigher was put through and coolly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. It was all us now and we continued to press in search of a winner and when Keigher was put through again we held our breath as his shot just passed the outside of the far post.
On balance two draws were fair but the standard of football on show from both sets of lads was exceptional played in a great spirit.
