This is it, our last game of the season against Reddish Villa who, despite their lowly league position, were to be no pushovers.
Despite our warnings of complacency we started poorly and within the first minute of the game we found ourselves a goal behind. We thought that might spark us to life but it wasn't to be and we were second to the ball giving Reddish far too much space and creating our own problems. That said we found ourselves ahead after Ethan and then Joel found the back of the net only for a late first half penalty for Reddish to make it 2-2 at the interval.
The boys had 20 minutes to redeem themselves bearing in mind we had to win both our games to have any chance of winning the league this year. Maybe our words fell onto deaf ears or maybe Reddish just played really well but despite several chances we couldn't find a goal. Truthfully, if it wasn't for a fantastic save from Joe and some outstanding defending from Harley and Ferguson we could have found ourselves behind.
With three minutes remaining Ethan squeezed the ball into the net and we just managed to scrape a win but it could have been so much easier.
We gave the same warning of complacency to the second team and they appeared to listen as they went out and played some lovely football without giving Reddish the opportunity to get into the game. Veitchy didn't touch the ball in the first half as Tom and Josh patrolled the defence, Elliott ran his legs off in midfield and Dan Coupe marauded up and down the right wing.
Veitchy came out of goal in the second half for a rare excursion into the field of play and put a free kick just wide, hit a shot just over the bar and missed Melly's inswinging corner but he was not to the thwarted. When the ball broke in the Reddish penalty area he was first on hand to smash the ball into the net. With two goals for Keigher, two for Melly and a goal apiece for Elliott, Dan and Veitchy we finished comfortable 7-0 winners.
With the other results that means we have finished a point behind 3D Dynamos and equal to West End in second place. The boy's hard work this season means that we'll be competing in the First Division next year and then we'll see just how good we are.
